Semi Wogan is the first release from London based pianist/composer Rick Simpson. The album features his quartet of George Crowley (tenor saxophone), Dave Manington (double bass) and Jon Scott (drums). Special guest vocalist Brigitte Beraha features on the last track. The quartet explore a mixture of rhythmic grooves, free improvisation and contemporary harmony all whilst maintaining a melodic core. Influences range from David Binney, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Vijay Iyer and Jason Moran.
The music was recorded over two days in July 2011 at Clown’s Pocket Studios by Derek Nash.
